Why I’m a Stand for Coaching

By: Michelle Theriault, Coach & Senior Advisor at The Mind Rebel™ Academy

There are very few concrete universal truths about living life here on Earth. There isn’t one right way to love or be in a relationship with another. There isn’t only one way to do meaningful work in this world. As far as I know, we haven’t yet found agreement on the one true religion or the best way to be spiritual. I don’t believe there is one perfect diet that will agree with every human being, and I’d bet a lot of money that there isn’t an exercise regimen universally suited to everyone on the face of this Earth.

If a “right way” did exist in any of these realms, perhaps we wouldn’t need coaching. Maybe we really could just pick up the right books, learn the right information, follow the proper rules, and arrive at the right outcome. But every time I’ve tried that strategy, it has let me down miserably. Or maybe I should say, it’s let the most authentic, precious, tender parts of me down miserably. It probably seemed okay-ish to some other parts of me.

I am as unique as my fingerprints. We are all as unique as our fingerprints. Every single one of us has our own desires, our own values, our own pace, our own energetic signature, our own dreams, and our own path to walk. The perfect road for you will likely lead me the wrong way. The truest path for me will probably feel uncomfortable or wrong to you.

The only way to find our best answers, our most empowering choices, and our deepest joys and satisfactions is to first look at who we really are and who we really want to be. This, I believe, is the key to real freedom. This is the way to liberation from the chains, constraints, projections, and perspectives of the world that cloud and shroud our truest and most beautiful selves.

This is what real coaching takes a stand for. This is why I take a stand for coaching. I crave my own freedom and thriving so deeply in my bones. I crave a life that matches my own heart. I crave a pace that honors my energy and body. I crave the path that will lead me to my greatest joys and my deepest fulfillment. This is also what I want most for my children. I can’t think of anything I’d want more for anyone I love.

Can you imagine a world where more and more people developed the understanding and skills to support others in revealing their own answers and brilliance? Can you imagine what it could be like if more and more people learned how to hold space for the authentic expression of those around them?

Selfishly, that is the world I most want for myself and my children. That is the world that might just make room for all of the parts of me that never seemed to fit in the old one. That is the world I want to be a part of creating.
